Visit to the Perfumeries and Jasmine fields of Grasse
Take the train to nearby Grasse, the World's Perfume capital. Get intoxicated by the fragrance of the Jasmine flower farms and visit the Perfume factories, stroll through the delightful and steep little street and enjoy the views over the hills. In the first week of August the spectacular jasmine flower festival is held with magnificent flower floats.
Train to Dinge-les-Bains
This slow ride into the mountains through spectacular scenery and over breathtaking viaducts is even slower on the weekends when the train is a historic steam train. Tickets can be bought on the day at the train station.
Day excursion to Antibes
Take the train from the main station in Nice to Antibes and enjoy the delightful ambience of this beautiful town with its 16th century ramparts along the shoreline and the old city with its narrow, winding road, little shops and artisan community.
Day excursion to the Ventimiglia
A bus or train will take you to nearby Ventimiglia across the Italian border. Ventimiglia has a lovely market where you can browse for italian leather goods, accessories, luggage and fashion. Ventimiglia is not as chic as Nice nor is the beach anything to get excited about. But the town is very charming with its medieval centre, 2nd century roman ruins and amphitheatre and not half as crowded as the French Riviera. It is also famous for the Giardini Botanici Hanbury, one of the famous gardens of the world. If you do this excursion by bus you can also stop at Balzi Rossi, a Stone Age site where the Cro-Magnon people once lived. On your way to Ventimiglia stop at Menton, the 'Pearl of France'.
